20+ Overwatch Statistics Every Gamer Should Know

If you’re new to Overwatch, seeing all the many abbreviations, short phrases and terms must be overwhelming. In this article, we’ll focus on the most important Overwatch statistics!

Such a feeling can only get worse if you’re not a veteran of the genre and if you don’t have any prior MOBA/FPS experience.

While they might seem overly complex and convoluted at first glance, they’re all actually very simple and straightforward — you just need to know a couple of things beforehand.

Knowing what each statistic means (and what it’s telling you) is of paramount importance if you want to improve in key areas of play.

You can learn a lot from a player just by looking at their overall and hero-specific stats: their tendencies, where they’re strong at, what are their weaknesses, what they need to work on, where they’re excelling, and so on.

If you learn to read these little nuggets of information, you’ll not only improve as a player but you’ll also have a better understanding of what needs to change in any given situation for success to be attained.

So without any further ado, let’s focus on the 20+ Overwatch statistics that every gamer should know! (listed in no particular order).

+20 Overwatch Statistics

1) Eliminations — The number of kills you participated in.

2) Final Blows — The number of opponents you finished off and therefore got the kill credit. This basically just means last hit.

3) Objective Kills — The number of kills on opponents who were actively trying to capture/defend the objective (kills on Control Points or when someone’s pushing the Payload).

4) Objective Time — The amount of time spent focusing on the objective. In other words, the number of minutes during which you were pushing the payload or attacking/defending the control point (on Control maps like Lijiang Tower).

5) Damage — The amount of damage you’ve dealt during the game.

6) Self Healing — The amount of healing you provided to yourself.

7) Healing Done — The amount of healing you provided to your teammates.

8) Barrier Damage Done — The amount of damage dealt to opposing barriers. Seeing how there are many heroes in the game who can activate/put up barriers, don’t be surprised if this number is much higher than you previously expected.

9) Deaths — The number of times you died. The fewer the better!

10) Offensive & Defensive Assists — This is primarily a statistic reserved for supports, but that’s not always the case. Because there are certain heroes who don’t contribute damage-wise, their effectiveness can be measured through Offensive and Defensive assists. You get the former when you provide a Damage Boost (think Mercy’s alternate fire or Zenyatta’s “Discord Orb”), and you get the latter when you provide support (healing, shielding) while someone else is dishing out damage.

11) Recon Assists — Once you reveal an enemy target using an ability like Hanzo’s “Sonic Arrow” or Widowmaker’s “Infra-Sight” and someone else kills them, you get a recon assist.

12) Teleporter Pads Destroyed — The number of Symmetra’s teleporter pads you’ve destroyed.

13) Turrets Destroyed — The number of Torbjörn’s turrets you’ve destroyed.

14) Cards — The number of times you were highlighted with a card in the post-game screen. These cards don’t provide anything other than recognition. They highlight a couple of players from either team who stood out in something like, say, a huge number of eliminations or objective kills.

15) Medals — Medals are basically a way to measure your own performance relative to your teammates. So if you get a gold medal in eliminations, that means you have the most eliminations in your team. Getting a silver medal means you’re second, and bronze means you’re third. Depending on which medal you attain, you’ll get an experience bonus.

16) On Fire — If you’re doing particularly well in-game (dishing out tons of damage, getting kills, pushing the payload, etc.) you’ll eventually become “on fire.” You’ll know this once your portrait becomes aflame. This doesn’t mean anything other than the fact that you’re a standout performer in your team.

17) Weapon Accuracy — How many of your shots have landed, percentage-wise? The higher the better.

18) Environmental Kills — This is a fun one. The number of kills you pulled off by causing the death of an opponent through the environment. So if you push an enemy over the edge and they fall to their death, that counts as an environmental kill.

19) Kill Streak — The number of kills you were able to string before dying.

20) Melee Final Blows — Every time you literally punch an enemy to death counts as a Melee Final Blow. Because this is a Final Blow, you only have to finish them off with a melee attack. Many heroes have combinations where they incorporate a melee hit at the end in order to maximize their damage output.

21) Multikill — The number of opponents you were able to take down in a very short amount of time (up to a maximum of six). So, for example, you pull off a sick D.Va ultimate and you kill multiple opponents at the same time, or you take out a couple of opponents in quick succession with Phara’s “Rocket Barrage.”

22) Critical Hits — Critical hits deal double damage, and they can be activated whenever you land a shot on an opponent’s head. In other words, they require pinpoint accuracy and are often hugely impactful, especially if you hit a priority target.

23) Solo Kills — This one is pretty self-explanatory. The number of opponents you killed by yourself.

24) Time Played — The amount of time you played a certain hero, role, game mode or the game in general.
