The Ultimate Fortnite Beginners Guide

It wasn’t easy to make this ultimate Fortnite beginners guide…

But we had to do it anyways.

Epic Games has been publishing video games for several years. Since the early 1990s, Epic games have been producing games on PC, the original Playstation, Dreamcast and Mac Operating System.

Now publishing games on all major platforms (including mobile), Epic Games hit the jackpot with their creation of Fortnite.

Fortnite: Battle Royale has taken the competitive world by storm and has become one of the most viewed games on social media and streaming platforms.

Fortnite is constantly in the news. Celebrities from all walks have come together to play this game, which has helped launch Fortnite into being one of the most popular games on the market today.

So, what exactly is Fortnite?

Save the World vs. Battle Royale

When you first log onto Fortnite (Battle Royale is free by the way) you will see two options: Save the World and Battle Royale.

In short, Save the World is a pay-to-play game while Battle Royale is free-to-play, although there are transactions.

Save the World is a PVE (Player Versus Environment) game where you fight off zombie-like creatures (hordes) while building huge bases, crafting weapons and finding loot.

You play as a “Hero” which you can also level up. It is the campaign version of Fortnite.

Battle Royale is a PVP (Player Versus Player) free for all that pits you against 99 other players. Players are eliminated through fighting and the last player standing gets that sweet Victory Royale.

The most popular version of Fortnite Battle Royale is Solos, but there are also Duos, Trios, and Squads.

How to Play Fortnite Battle Royale

Focusing on Battle Royale, the main objective is to outlast all the other opponents to win the game.

It may seem like a daunting task to outduel 99 other players, but there is a slim chance you will run into that many people during your time on the ground.

To start the game, the Battle Bus (which holds all the players) goes from one end of the map to the other. When you find a spot you like, you deploy out of the Battle Bus and land at your desired location.

From there, you gather materials (wood, brick, and metal) and weapons to prepare yourself for fighting.

You can gather weapons using your pickage and hitting any breakable structures in the game, which is practically everything.

Once you are all kitted with weapons and materials, you’re going to want to make sure you’re in the safe zone.

The safe zone (the large white circle on the map) indicates where the storm cannot damage you when on the Fortnite Island.

If you spend time outside of the safe zone, you will receive damage. As the game progresses, the longer you stay in the storm, the more damage you will receive.

There will be a timer in the upper right corner of your screen indicating when the storm is forming and when it is closing in.

Watch carefully as depending on where you land on the island, you could have a long way to the safe zone. When the timer ticks down to zero, this means that the storm is about to roll in.

So don’t worry about not being inside the safe zone right away.

You won’t be damaged instantly. But you’ll see the purple storm move towards you. Once that touches your character, you will start receiving damage

The safe zone will become smaller each round, forcing players to interact. As the game progresses, your odds of facing another opponent increases.

How to Win In Fortnite

To win the game, 99 other players must be eliminated. As mentioned, you won’t face 99 players in the game, so you can breathe easy.

Whenever you run into an opponent, expect to fight. The winner of the fight (whoever doesn’t lose full shield and full health) will continue in the game.

That continuously happens all over the island until only 2 players are left.

When you’re in the final 2, known as a 1v1, the player eliminated will be crowned the winner and earn that sweet Victory Royale.

Fortnite Tips and Tricks

If you’re looking to stay alive as long as possible in the game, you may want to start on the outskirts of the island. Places with titles, like Pleasant Park or Misty Meadows are called POIs (Places of Interest).

Those specific places on the map are most likely to have players, meaning you will run into an opponent sooner than anticipated.

Shields can help you stay alive longer. Every player is granted 100 starting health each game. From there, you can apply shiels (basically armor) to help better protect your character.

Mini-shield potions grant 25 HP for every use, up to a maximum of 50 HP. Big-shield potions grant 50 HP for every use, which are useful for your character to reach 100 shield HP.

There is no limit for how many big-shields you can use, but the max shield HP is 100.

Pay attention to the rarity of items. Grey items are the most common, while gold is the rarest. When you land from the Battle Bus, you may find grey guns.

But as the game progresses, you might be lucky and be able to equip high rarity items, which inflicts more damage.

Lastly, build when engaging with an opponent. What makes Fortnite stand out is that players build their protection.

Of course, you can hide behind things like rocks, trees, and cars, but you can also build yourself a big base to protect yourself when engaging with an enemy.

That is the gist of Fortnite: Battle Royale. Once you drop from the Battle Bus, your only friend is yourself. Trust no one and move carefully around the island as you never know where someone could be hiding.

Make sure to harvest materials, use shields and fill your inventory with weapons and heals. Those three things will increase your odds of winning the game.

Have fun! Fortnite is one of the top games for a reason but also has a huge learning curve. Take it easy and try to improve each day and you will eventually capture your first Victory Royale!
