According to reports from VentureBeat, a Legally Blonde video game adaptation is on the horizon. The game is set to release in late 2021 and will be based on the original Legally Blonde film, as well as its sequel.
What is the story of Legally Blonde?
For those of you unaware, Legally Blonde is a film that was released 20 years ago, in 2001. The film’s main character is Elle Woods, a sorority girl who is into fashion and little dogs. Despite being portrayed as a stereotypical girly female, she finds her way into Harvard, where she becomes a law student. And a boss a$$ b*tch at the same time.
The movie is still relevant to this day, as it deals with the contemporary issue of the prejudice that women face in the workforce.
The sequel of the movie, Legally Blonde: Red, White, and Blonde, continues on the adventures of Elle. It was released in 2003, and the movie pits our favorite blonde against a make-up company that tests its products on animals.
Reese Witherspoon, who portrayed Elle Woods, would play in many other films. But we all remember her as Elle.
More About the Legally Blonde Game
The video game adaptation of Legally Blonde will be free-to-play and available on Android and iOS. MGM gave the privileges of creating the video game to PlaySide, a video game studio based in Melbourne.
PlaySide is very well-known in the mobile gaming industry. They are the people behind the Dumb Ways To Die series, which has amassed billions of downloads.
They are also one of the few studios which focuses on bringing numerous films and TV series to your mobile device. Some of their games include Jumanji: Epic Run and Cars: Lightning League.
Their biggest game, however, has to be The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, a virtual reality game that took the VR community by storm.
The Legally Blonde video game is going to be a match-3 puzzle game. This might come to the disappointment of many fans of the film and PlaySide. We have seen the quality of games that PlaySide can produce, such as the aforementioned Walking Dead game. So it was unexpected for them to use a cash-grabbing genre.
But, we hope that PlaySide can implement a new twist to the genre and create their next big hit. And we’d even be happy if they would create a game that exceeds the quality of well-known match-3 games, like Homescapes.
This move from MGM and PlaySide will prove to be beneficial for both parties. If PlaySide manages to meet the original release date, it will bring back many memories of this film to its fans. And with the third Legally Blonde movie in the works, set to premiere in 2022, it’ll surely bring some much-needed attention to the Legally Blonde series.
We’re also hopeful that Reese Witherspoon will play a role in the video game since she’s already announced that she’ll be portraying Elle Woods once again.
While we know that the Legally Blonde video game will be released this year, a release date is not yet set.
